History, Webmaster, jbetters do not send zip, exe or scr files. Unless there is a request from a crewman.
Someones computer is infected and sending this.

Question: Why is this message from administrator at vance.com being sent to me?

Answer: This is a spam message and probably contains a virus. As administrator I do not send mail to anyone using this address.
I would suggest anyone receiving mail with exe or scr attachment not to open them. If you are using Outlook Express you can go to TOOLS, OPTIONS, SECURITY and UNCHECK do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus. If you want to open an attachment CHECK this box.

Answer: We are writing to inform you of an important change to your e-mail service. We have recently finished a major upgrade to our mail system. To further improve your service, beginning on April 5, 2004, a quota of 15 MB (that is approximately 750 20 Kb messages) will be imposed on each mailbox on your account.
This is just telling you that your Vance mail server has been upgraded and a quota of 15 MB is set.
Incoming mail after this mark will be bounced back to the sender. This is just like Hotmail, Yahoo mail and others are doing.

Answer: This is not a valid mail account. I have traced it back to Hong Kong at this point.

The spam-identification tactics used include:
header analysis: spammers use a number of tricks to mask their identities, fool you into thinking they've sent a valid mail, or fool you into thinking you must have subscribed at some stage. Spam Control tries to spot these.
text analysis: again, spam mails often have a characteristic style (to put it politely), and some characteristic disclaimers and CYA text. Spam Control can spot these, too.

Question: What happened to the Logbook page?

Answer: The Logbook for some reason started shutting people out.
You can follow the link found at the LogBook page which will allow you to copy and paste all the questions to your own e-mail program for sending. If you have a problem.
I am working on this problem and hope to have it resolved soon.
