I got a copy of this photo from someone a few years ago. My father is at the top looking over. He was Robert H. Koenker and a Lieutenant on the Vance during WW2. My dad died November 4, 1981.

Here is a picture of Captain Lt. Fritz Steinhoff Skipper of the U-873 Who later committed suicide.
He killed himself, not because he was sick, but because he was disgraced because he surrendered.
"his crew forced him to surrender"
I was told of the reason of surrender by both Officers and Crew.
