Reason for reading about the Vance : Research

Comments : Very interesting reading, lots of opinions, the facts remain the facts, and indeed, unfortunately, in this case, reality came to model fiction.

Was the CAPT really as bad as Generous suggests?
I was an enlisted Marine prior to my Army commission and I actually ended up retiring as an O3 Captain.
From what I am reading about the atmosphere in the wardroom - pretty toxic - and an unbelievably bad example for other ranks - from what I read - if the ship functioned at all it was the Chiefs holding it together . . . Also - there is an Edsel Class DE as a museum ship in Galveston - I have been aboard her - pretty neat ship - pretty cramped quarters . . .
Cheers,
Keith
