Comment: The reference to the sub caught my attention as we on many occasions were caught on their fire control radar and one sub did surface during my tenure in AEW and I believe we also got photos of that as I remember a crewman on the sub waved a broom or something to indicate that we were tracking each other. Also I was interested in knowing about a contact we had during this time period that flew our course on several different occasions. This was of significant interest as the speed of the "target" was near mach three as I recall. During that time period 60 to 63 it was not known that there were aircraft that could reach those speeds. Also we had a U-2 land on Midway Island during this period also! These are just a few of the more interesting events that occurred.

After the AEW and the Cuba crises I entered college in California and graduated and then continued my education at the University of Colorado and graduated and was employed by IBM Boulder, Colorado. I have since retired from IBM but the last years I traveled through Hawaii and visited Barbers Point! It broke my heart to see the disrepair of the installation. I didn't get back to Midway but I did get to Guam and to Saipan. I took every advantage to investigate and visit the WWII sites that were NOT off limits.
