Reasons for reading about the Vance= Served aboard, To find shipmates
Comments= I am happy to see that a lot of my old shipmates are in contact with one another. I look forward to communicating with old friends.
Yep, I am scratching my head and trying to remember people and events on the Vance also. When I came on board, it was a few months after captain Arnheiter left. When I reported for duty, I remember people telling me about that captain and I remember people telling me that I was lucky not to have been on board when Arnheiter was around.
Somewhere entangled in the cobwebs in my brain, the name Sweeney, Ford, and Spooner are familiar. Roach I remember and Johnson I remembered him but not his name until you mentioned it. I do remember Chiefs Wakefield and Blake. Both were really cool people.
Let me add a tidbit of information that might spark a little recall at least with George. When I came aboard, there was a short timer first class EN running "A" Gang that was being discharged. I relieved him. The plan that was in effect before I arrived, was that I would go to the engine room and take the place of another EN2 that was running the "hole." He was very anxious to get away from those eardrum busting, head splitting opposed piston engines.
