Reasons for reading about the Vance= My family history
Comments= My father, Capt. Harmon C. Penny, served as Commanding Officer of the Vance from 1960-1961 (give or take a few months).

I contacted the Vance website partly to repost the sad news of his death on Nov. 3, 2003; and partly to find out more about the Vance and men he served with aboard her. Listening to my father reminisce for any length of time, it was obvious that Vance held a special place in his heart.
