Comments= Visited this summer with one of my shipmates from the Ingersoll & discovered some interesting things. My friend was a little puzzled why the Chief Engineer Officer was cold & distant at the previous reunion.
My conclusion after much discussion was that
  1. the CHENG was embarassed by the unlawful restriction of my friend one time,
  2. the CHENG was embarassed that the Ingersoll officers did NOTHING about Arnheiter and
  3. the CHENG was embarassed that my friend, a lowly enlisted puke aboard the DD-652 had done well for himself: big house on a hill in Newport Beach, CA, partner in an accounting firm and a yacht (which I was able to see that my friend had developed a fine sense of seamanship).

This is my opinion and I hope it has not rubbed any Vance wounds open. Arnheiter was/is a disaster and was a mistake. Many people are responsible for turning him loose on the Vance and should have a great deal of heartburn for doing so.
