Ain't technology wonderful?
Did note A.J.Walz, Boot camp and shipmate. I don't remember Ens. Kelly yet and I saw no info on Capt Kelly Ret'd.
We sailed Vance from Mayport to Philadphia Navy yard May 52. There 3 months then CG yard cne month. Transitted the Chesapeake-Delaware canal! Sailed from Hampton Roads around Columbus Day 52 to San Diego via the Panama Canal with ports of call at Coco Solo, Panama City, and Acapulco . After Underway training sailed to Honolulu, home port Sand Island C G base. 1953 (? May ) went to the P,I. (Cavite- Sangley Point) for three months SAR duty While there went to Hong Kong for "R&R". Stopped at Guam on way out for radar repair, but sailed back to Hawaii nonstop.
I left the Vance in August 53 for return to Conus and discharge. If I can locate them I may have some Hooligan Navy pics.
My Son in law was researching the USS Gray FF1054, and sent me the info on this site.
Again thanks and I'll keep tabs on my old home. I have some other info I may send to you later.
