Comments= Serving on a WWII Destroyer Escort was a great adventure. I will never forget it.
Everyone should be proud of their naval service.
I served on the Vance between 63 and 65. LCDR Ross Wright was the captain at the time.
We made several patrols to the Aleutians as part of the DEW line and did one 6 month deployment to Vietnam where we were the flagship for a squadron of minesweepers. We searched fishing boats and picked up a downed air force pilot whose F100 had a flame out. He was forced to eject and landed in the ocean and we were the nearest ship. He was very happy to see us!!!
