re: DE 387
Hi Joe,
I have some photos taken at the time of the capture of the sub. A couple I have already seen on the sites for the ship, but I have two - one of my Dad (Robert H. Koenker) holding a Nazi flag and surrounded by a couple German rifles and another with two other Vance Officers holding guns taken from the sub. Naturally they are prize possessions of mine! My father passed away in 1981. My brother has a German pistol that my father brought home. Would you be interested in the two photos? My brother has one of the photos. I am attaching the one just of my dad.
My brother and I were talking today and I doubt there are many of the crew left from 1945 since they would be near 80 years old and the ones still alive probably don't have Internet access so they would not see these photos :-( I sure would love to hear from one or more!!
My Dad was a Second Lieutenant I believe. After the Navy he moved to Muncie Indiana where he was Dean of the Graduate School at Ball State Teachers College (now Ball State University). He had his Doctorate Degree before entering the service.
Thanks for the nice site. Wow, the Internet is wonderful!! My brother, sister and I all live in Muncie.
Jeffrey Robert Koenker :-)
