| Comments= I am a plank owner of the USS VANCE, went aboard her when she came off of the ways at Houston, Texas in 1943. AS I remember it was in January. made many atlantic crossings and was the first to see action in North Africa also the first to bring in a snorkle type German sub. the captain killed himself. we were sent to the pacific after the bomb drop we were sent back to Green SPGS, FL. IN 1945. WHERE WE DECOMMISSIONED THE VANCE. SHE ALSO SERVED IN THE KOREAN WAR |
