Mercy Mission Distress Call is Answered
A seaman aboard a merchant convoy ship is critically ill somewhere in the Mediterranean. In responseto the distress call to Coast Guard destroyer escort, Dr. James W. Todd, Belton, S. C. embarks on mercy mission via boatswain's chair.

Plunging into the surf along an almost beachless stretch of the Pacific coastline near Santa Monica, Calif., this Lighting P-38 fighter plane brought its career to an abrupt end. the pilot, Lieut. H. E. Walmer, wo, of Van Nuys, Calif., escaped with slight injuries.
